Problems of Natural Nails and Solutions: Brittle Nails

‘Brittle Nails’ranks top of the list of problems of natural nails. Nails which grow a little and then become brittle and snap off can be inherited, or they can indicate that you are trying to grow your nails longer than your particular nail plate can support. Other causes are putting hands into detergent without wearing rubber gloves and incorrect use of nail hardeners and strengtheners, which should always be used in conjunction with a cuticle cream so that the moisture does not dry out of the nail. Cuticle cream, lanolin or petroleum jelly regularly massaged into the cuticle will stimulate the nail cells, and encourage the growth of the nail; more important, they will ensure that the new nail is growing with the right amount of moisture between the layers, which is vital for bonding them together and preventing the nails from breaking and splitting. Incorrect filing can be another cause of this condition. Always use an emery board, never a steel file as this will tear the delicate keratin layers. Check that your diet is high in protein, calcium, iron, potassium and Vitamin B and take a daily dose of gelatin in the form of jelly cubes which will strengthen your nails. A course of iodine tablets may also be helpful.‘Brittle Nails’ranks top of the list of problems of natural nails. Problems of Natural Nails and Solutions: Flaking Nails

The next of the common problems of natural nails is Flaking Nails. The three layers of cells which form the nail plate separate and peel off, which seriously weakens the nail tip. Flaking nails can be hereditary, or they may be the result of crash dieting, when your body has been deprived of vitamins and minerals essential to healthy nails. This would show up long after you had finished dieting, as the damage would have been done to the nails in the growing stage in the matrix and it takes time for the effects to grow up to the tip. Certain drugs or medicines could also be a cause, as could harsh nail-polish solvents, an allergy to nail-polish or solvent or simply putting your hands into detergents too often without rubber gloves. As with brittle nails, it is wise to check your diet to ensure that you are eating the right foods, and a regular does of gelatin is a good idea to strengthen the growing nail. To preserve the flaking, damaged part of the nail, file carefully in one direction only with an emery board to smooth layers which might snag and tear. Either stop wearing polish for a while or change to better quality products, and never use neat acetone as a remover. Always apply a base coat to protect your nails. Use a mending patch to stop the polish peeling off the layered part of the nail. I will both protect the wakened nail and help polish to adhere.

Problems of Natural Nails and Solutions: Hang Nails

Hang Nails occur when the cuticle is firmly stuck to a nail. As the nail grows, it pulls the cuticle and eventually tears it. Hang nails can become infected and are then extremely painful. Avoid this condition by manicuring the nails regularly, using cuticle cream and loosening the cuticle away from the nail plate by pushing back gently with a towel after your bath. Never cut into the cuticle – this can cause a serious infection. Dead skin can be clipped off and antiseptic dabbed on, but do not on any account pull the skin. Otherwise leave hang nails alone. If they become inflamed, see the doctor.Hang Nails occur when the cuticle is firmly stuck to a nail. As the nail grows, it pulls the cuticle and eventually tears it. Problems of Natural Nails and Solutions: Lines or Ridges on Nails

Ridges across the nails are caused by something damaging the newly-forming nail in the matrix. It could simply be a knock or a bump, but it is often caused by pushing back the cuticles too ruthlessly, which can damage the soft, new nail being formed below. Ridges can also be caused by illness. Once ridges have formed they cannot be removed, but they will grow out eventually. Faint lines or ridges going the other way, from cuticle to nail tip, can be inherited or caused by excessive dryness or acidity. Never use harsh polish removers and massage cuticles nightly with cream, lanolin or petroleum jelly. Vitamin A, calcium and iodine in your diet will help this condition.

Problems of Natural Nails and Solutions: Stained Nails

Stained Nails can be caused by smoking or by the pigment in nail polish staining the nails. Using a base coat before varnishing prevents the polish infiltrating the nail plate. Nicotine stains can be removed by rubbing the nail with hydrogen peroxide or lemon, both of which are very drying, so thoroughly rinse and cream the nail afterwards.

Problems of Natural Nails and Solutions: White Marks on Nail

White Marks on Nail are usually caused by damage to the matrix either by a knock or bump, by too ruthless probing at the cuticle, or by picking at nail polish at the root of the nail. The injury causes the layers of keratin which form the nail to separate, and when air circulates between the layers a white spot appears. Once white spots have formed, they must just be allowed to grow out naturally. Occasionally white spots may be caused by a fungal infection, which should be seen by a doctor.

The nails are part of the beauty of any woman and that is why her care is very important. Having shine in your nails is great .The aesthetics has become so important that lately the color and shapes have taken over the decoration and adornment of them. But you should be more careful about various problems of natural nails.
